Polystyrene is still often the go-to in the industry for insulation of chilled water pipe applications. The material is rigid, light and relatively low cost and, in the hands of the professional, can achieve an incredibly neat finish. InsulShop’s Foil Faced Polystyrene is SL-class (13.5kg/m3) open cell foam, with a thermal conductivity (k-value) of 0.0407 W/mk. Because it is open cell, it requires a foil to ensure a vapour barrier. This is done by foil facing the PS with Ametalin SilverSark® XHD foil, a poly-weave foil that outperforms traditional kraft-paper based foils in many aspects. Silversark® XHD has excellent fire, durability and mechanical properties, and has an extremely low vapour permeability, ensuring that humid air can never reach the cold pipes.
InsulShop faces the Polystyrene the in-house and can, besides the standard silver, also provide the material in Black, Cottage green and Surf Mist to match the ColorBond colours. The material is supplied in 1.2 m lengths and is readily available in standard copper pipe sizes with wall thicknesses of 25 mm, 38 mm, 50 mm and 63 mm. However, InsulShop can always accommodate your larger or special sizes.
